Published in Dogs Today

Dogs Today is my favorite Dog Magazine. It is full of useful articles, breed information, health advise and interesteding Dog articles.

I am pleased to say that one of my images was published in the September 2017 issue. In the section for “The Best Dog Photos in the world”.

The image of three lovely Lagotto Romagnolo dogs that came for a session at my home studio a while ago. Photographing multiple dogs is always a challenge, depending on the level of obedience they have of course. These dogs were very good, although getting them to all look in the direction of the camera at the same time was a challenge!

The Lagotto is a small to medium sized dog distinguished by his curly and water resistant coat. The Romagnolo Lagotto is a Venetian/Romagnan dialect word meaning “duck dog”.

A lively Lagotto pup will usually grow up to be a sensible, happy, affectionate, agile little dog.  They are very trainable, they are known for truffleing, retrieving waterfowl and they also makes an excellent family companion pet and are good alert dog.

The Logotto is a working type of dog, and were often kept centuries ago by peasant marshmen to look after the house and warn off intruders. They are not a yappy dog but can be very vocal when strangers are around the home. (ref http://www.lagottoromagnoloclubofgb.co.uk)

Mum on the right featured in an earlier post of mine as did this photo as she did very well at Crufts 2016 and won the Veteran Bitch Class at 12 years of age!

The September issue has lots of interesting articles and you can get copies easily on line. https://dogstodaymagazine.co.uk/

My favorite reads were Send in the emergency dogs, Britains foodbanks now for pets, and The dog crush was about Whippets, one of my favoritebreeds.

Thank you for reading my post.

Schools Back

If your kids are not back at school already then as mine they will be soon. We have had a very full and busy summer and after a having a leaking water pipe at home soaking the floors and walls of our house, it is all now nearly completed and we are moving back in.

Just sat here tidying some stuff up and found an image of my Collie Maya in Feburary 2017, Dogs Today Magazine. I have been fortunate enough to have been selected for their section, “The Best Dog Photographs in the World” section numerous times.  Look out for the September issue!  Its a great magazine.

This image was taken up on the Ridgeway on a stormy day. I like the fact that you can just see the sheep behind her. Although she does Agility she was bred to work sheep but was not so keen on the idea!

Don’t forget to get your pooch something tasty for Christmas but be sure it’s safe for them to eat. Kongs are great ideas, you can fill them with all sorts of tasty things to give variety and they can be frozen to make it last even longer. My dogs love these as both a toy and a treat.

I hope you all have a wonderful Xmas and New Year.

Summer Camp at Westpoint Arena

The summer holidays started and a little break away for myself and the dogs to Summer Handling Camp with Devon Dogs. Not to mention there being lots of photo opportunities!

Photos from the camp are available on my website. Click here to access and all profits go to Agility against cancer for Yvonne Goode

Although I have done several workshops with Devon Dogs it was my first camp. So off I headed to Westpoint Arena near Exter, call full to bursting and hoping that it would stop raining and I would survive the week in a three man tent with the dogs!

I can tell you now that I loved every minute of it and have already booked to go again next year!  So if you are interested, read on and then book up soon as spaces will go fast!

The camp starts on Monday with the arrival from mid-day onwards and a welcome meeting late afternoon with Pimms and cake!  A goodie bag from Devon dogs and the all important schedule for your week!

The Summer Camp attendees get prime camping positions above the training rings which would later become the Competition rings for Devon Dogs Agility show held Sat, Sun, Mon and Tues after the camp. Giving you four days of putting your training into practice!

Although not provided by Devon dog,  electric hook up was available if required via the site for a very reasonable price. The was a very nice shower block at the main arena. A 5-minute walk or you could easily drive down there.  There is plenty of space for walking the dogs.

So what happens at Camp….. Everyone is given a schedule of their lesson for the camp, lessons are Tues, Wed and Thursday and everyone has two, two hour workshops each day. There are also 1-2-1 slots that can be booked Monday – Friday.

Allocated in accordance with the preferences you provided prior to the camp starting. In between you are welcome to watch the workshops you are not attending or you can use any equipment that is not being used in the lessons to practice. You can also opt to chill out with your dogs or go and get any shopping you may need.

There are seminars each evening and then an organised BBQ, Quiz night and pub meal.

While you are not in a workshop there is plenty to do. You are welcome to watch the workshops you are not attending or you can use any equipment that is not being used in the lessons to practice. You can also opt to chill out with your dogs or go and get any shopping you may need or take a trip to the beach!

Tea and cake is available from late morning through the afternoon in the Marquee and Lesley Purgh from Colimanor was there with her trade stand for doggy treats, toy, harnesses etc.

New Branding for Mel Taylor Photography

At last I glad to be able to announce some changes to Mel Taylor Photography. I have always been one to follow my heart and passions so I have decided to focus the business on the areas which I enjoy most.

Canine and Equine Photography and Child Portraits will be the areas I am specialising in. They say never work with Animals or children but I love the challenge that they bring and having worked with horses, owned my own horses, ponies and dogs and a being mother of two and step mum to a soon to be 21 yr old, I feel that I have plenty of knowledge and experience in all these areas.

I will also continue taking wedding bookings as I love spending the day capturing this special day for couples, but will only be taking on a small number of weddings each year to ensure that they get the time that I feel they need to ensure a quality end product.

A big thank you to  Peajaykay of East Hanney for my new logo. www.peajaykay.com

The updated website will launch in the next few days!
